"Ants" Poem
- Ants -
The ants carry my thoughts
Millions of tiny pieces
So give me grace as I try to convey my mind
Fragmented lines,
Showing an irrelevance of time
Trying to find their way home
Take it all as you would one of the ants
With a simple smile and quiet wonder
That God would use such small things to conquer mountains
That God birthed the fountains of creation
From his mind
Yet He took time
To make these feeble feet
That He would make oceans out of rivers that never meet
That He would give me hopes that I can't seem to keep
They always seem so broken
Shaken by people on the streets
So I walk this world the way the ants do
Weights too heavy to bear on my back
Bumping in and out of places that are black
Pleading that one day
My thoughts will reach the places they want to go
And not just be hopes that I know
But in this moment my eyes are closed
As I try to keep my feet moving forward
But I seem to find even darker spaces
So I end up asking for more and more graces
But I am reminded
That He makes the feet of all men that run races
And He makes the feet of all ants and sets their paces
And before time He determined
That he would give me this fragmented mind
So I sit with a simple smile and quiet wonder
Perplexed that God would use such small things to conquer mountains
Perplexed that He might use me to call anyone home
